Satisfied from a Hospital Bed

As I lay in a hospital bed waiting for more tests to be completed I am reminded of the all satisfying steadfast love and gladness that God provides in times affliction. Even as I wait for permission to eat something other than a liquid He is so good in all the ways He cares and watches over me.

Satisfy us in the morning with your steadfast love, that we may rejoice and be glad all our days. Make us glad for as many days as you have afflicted us, and for as many years as we have seen evil. Let your work be shown to your servants, and your glorious power to their children. —Ps 90:14–15

Moses prayed for God to fill or satisfy His people with His mercy, His unfailing love. Satisfy means to be completely full. It is the word used of a person who has eaten to the point that he or she can eat no more. Moses prayed that God would satisfy His people daily with His unfailing love in a few different ways in these verses. Look at what he prayed for the people:

…he prayed that God would be filling their lives with joyful song and rejoicing (v. 14b).

…he prayed that God would replace their former years of affliction and evil with a spirit of gladness (v. 15).

…he asked God to make their gladness last as long as their misery lasted and to give them a measure of joy equal to their suffering (v.15).

…he prayed that God would reveal His works to His people (v. 16a).

…he asked God to work in His people’s lives through their time of discipline.

…he asked God to open their eyes by revealing His glory to their children (v. 16b).

…he asked God to lead His people’s children into the glory or splendor of the promised land.

Will you pray and ask God to bring you this kind of satisfaction in Him. After all what else is there to be satisfied in than a God that provides everything we could ever need, want, or desire.
